EAST RUTHERFORD – As the NFL trade deadline approaches Tuesday at 4 p.m., the New York Giants are in an unfortunate yet familiar position. For the third straight year, Brian Daboll’s team finds itself at 2-7. The circumstances feel somewhat different, perhaps because of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart’s presence, even if that fails to take the sting out of the lackluster performance on the field and scoreboard these past three weeks.
With eight games left, uncertainty hangs over the futures of both Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. This leads to the belief that the Giants could, as strange as it sounds, be both buyers and sellers.
Here is everything you need to know about the Giants as we track what we’re hearing in the final hours.

A WR off the board: Jakobi Meyers off to Jacksonville
Jakobi Meyers, a player who was on my list of potential acquisitions (though at the bottom), is now off to the Jaguars. The former Raiders wide receiver heads to Jacksonville for fourth and sixth-round picks, according to ESPN. Meyers, 28, checks boxes with inside/outside versatility, but he will be a free agent next year and wants a long-term deal, which was a significant sticking point for the Giants from my perspective. The Jaguars have recently lost Travis Hunter and Brian Thomas Jr. at receiver.
Another potential WR target gone: Rashid Shaheed to Seattle
The Saints have sent Rashid Shaheed to the Pacific Northwest. Seattle sent fourth and fifth-round picks in exchange. That is a move I would not have made if I were the Giants, either. For a potential rental, that is steep. The Seahawks must be considering an extension, or they are shooting for Santa Clara after Sunday night.
Bengals LB Logan Wilson heads to Cowboys
Logan Wilson, the versatile veteran linebacker who wanted out of Cincinnati, is apparently getting his wish. He is headed to Dallas, NFL Network reports, in a deal Cowboys owner Jerry Jones teased Monday. That was before his team lost to the Cardinals on national TV as the Dallas defense faced criticism again.
I had put forth an outside-the-box deal for the Giants to acquire Wilson. With Micah McFadden on IR and Bobby Okereke a potential cap casualty ($9 million in savings), we’ve seen the weakness in the middle. Wilson, 29, is a three-down defender due $6 million in 2026. He would have been an upgrade next to Okereke and a leader next year. He is now a Dallas Cowboy.
UPDATED: For Wilson, the Cowboys are reportedly sending a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Bengals.
Potential Giants Targets: Who Are They Buying?
JAYLIN WADDLE, WR, DOLPHINS
He’s the ideal fit. Miami reportedly wants a first-round pick for the 26-year-old, but perhaps that price will fall closer to the deadline if the Giants make a sweet enough offer.
CHRIS OLAVE, WR, SAINTS
If Waddle proves not to be an option, Olave would be an attractive playmaker to pair with Malik Nabers when he returns from ACL surgery next season.
RASHID SHAHEED, WR, SAINTS
The 27-year-old has untapped potential and speed but would require a contract extension to be kept here beyond this year.
Potential Giants Trades: Who Are They Selling?
WR Jalin Hyatt
Hyatt embraced the “whatever happens happens” mantra Sunday night. He’s aware his role on offense is essentially non-existent; the Giants even used him on kickoff returns. A third-round pick the Giants moved up for, Hyatt has not shown enough as a diversified route runner and has just 11 catches dating back to last season.
OL Evan Neal
The former No. 7 overall pick switched from right tackle to right guard this offseason. After taking first-team reps in training camp, he was a healthy scratch for the first eight games and eventually fell behind Aaron Stinnie. He was active Sunday against the 49ers but did not play.
CB Tae Banks
This is not just about Banks’s playability. His performance has dropped off so drastically that it’s fair to criticize his ability as a football player. While a change of scenery might be best, it’s unknown if another team still sees skill on the tape.
OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux
As the first draft pick of Schoen and Daboll, Thibodeaux is under contract through 2026. He is embracing the dirty work up front and sacrificing a bit. No draft asset is more important, but interest from other teams does exist. How strong that interest is remains the question.
DL Dexter Lawrence
This is a fruitless exercise. Lawrence hasn’t changed his desire to stay, and the Giants would need to be blown away to even consider trading one of their best players. He would have the biggest price tag and bring back the biggest haul, but you must keep good players.
QB Russell Wilson
Wilson’s time on the field here is likely over, especially with Jameis Winston under contract for next season, though he has value to Dart behind the scenes. He is one of the more obvious giants quarterback trade options. It’s hard to imagine the Giants saying no if a team calls about their giants quarterback trade options. This situation is different from other potential giants quarterback trade options that might arise. The team’s evaluation of all giants quarterback trade options will be critical.
