Returns in saints vs chiefs Clash
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Kareem Hunt turned back the clock under the bright lights of Arrowhead Stadium as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the New Orleans Saints 26-13 on Monday night. The saints vs chiefs matchup saw Mahomes throw for 331 yards, Kelce grab nine catches for 70 yards, and Hunt rumble for 102 yards and a touchdown in a throwback performance that reignited the Chiefs’ offense.
“It was a great feeling to get back in the end zone. I missed it very much,” said Hunt, who recently rejoined Kansas City following an injury to Isiah Pacheco. “That’s why I threw up a heart — to show my love for Kansas City.”
Mahomes and Kelce Dominate in the Air
The saints vs chiefs showdown once again showcased the unmatched chemistry between Mahomes and Kelce. The star duo kept the offense rolling despite red-zone struggles, connecting repeatedly to move the chains and control possession. Mahomes finished with 331 passing yards, keeping the Chiefs at 5-0 on the season.
Meanwhile, Arrowhead erupted when news broke that the Royals won Game 2 of their ALDS against the Yankees — a victory celebrated loudly by both the fans and part-owner Mahomes. “They picked it up and got the win, and it was extremely exciting,” Mahomes said.
Saints Struggle to Keep Pace
New Orleans quarterback Derek Carr was limited to 185 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception before exiting with an oblique injury in the fourth quarter. “I couldn’t do what I needed to do in the simplest form,” Carr admitted postgame.
Running back Alvin Kamara continued the Saints’ offensive woes, managing just 26 yards on 11 carries, as Kansas City’s defense once again stifled a top-tier rusher. The Chiefs previously held Derrick Henry (46 yards), Zack Moss (34), and Bijan Robinson (31) to minimal gains in recent matchups.
“We got outplayed,” Saints coach Dennis Allen said. “We really couldn’t get a whole lot going on either side of the ball.”
Red-Zone Woes and Bizarre Plays
The first half of the saints vs chiefs game offered fireworks — and a few fumbles. Hunt’s first touchdown since returning to Kansas City put the Chiefs ahead early, while Carr hit Rashid Shaheed on a 43-yard score for New Orleans.
Kansas City’s offense, however, was hindered by its continued red-zone inefficiency. Harrison Butker kicked three field goals in the first half as the Chiefs led 16-7 at the break.
In one memorable sequence, a fumbled pitch, a holding penalty, and a Kelce lateral turned a second-and-34 into a first down that eventually set up another Butker field goal.
Chiefs Seal the Win
Early in the fourth quarter, JuJu Smith-Schuster hauled in a 50-yard bomb from Mahomes, and rookie Xavier Worthy punched in a 3-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 23-13. After the Chiefs defense stuffed the Saints on fourth down, another Butker field goal with 3:03 left sealed the victory.
“It’s pretty cool to get the band back together,” Smith-Schuster said. “There’s no place like this. What we have here is special.”
Taylor Swift Returns to Arrowhead
Pop superstar Taylor Swift was back in the stands to cheer for Kelce and the Chiefs after missing the last two road games. She’s set to resume her Eras Tour later in the week in Miami.
Injury Updates
- Saints: CB Will Harris (hamstring) and C Lucas Patrick (collarbone) both left the game.
- Chiefs: LT Wanya Morris (lower leg) exited briefly but returned.
The saints vs chiefs matchup captured everything Arrowhead fans could hope for — Mahomes magic, Kelce brilliance, Hunt’s redemption, and another dominant defensive display — as Kansas City continued its unbeaten streak with a 26-13 win.
